Best 2016 Compact Sedan

Sedans are the most popular vehicle styles in the United States. There are so many of them as a matter of fact, that sedans are further classified as compact sedans, mid-size sedans, full-size sedans and rounding out the category – sport & luxury sedans. For this article however – we focus on the Compact Sedan category and the newly redesigned category champion – The 2016 Honda Civic.

The Best 2016 Compact Sedan is the Honda Civic

The Honda Civic has been completely redesigned for 2016. The exterior looks sportier and sleeker when compared with the 2015 Honda Civic, but the 2016 Civic didn’t only receive a better-looking exterior – it received upgrades to the interior, vehicle construction, and performance as well.

New for 2016 is a 1.5-liter turbo engine for the EX-T, EX-L, and Touring trim levels. A 2.0L naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder drives the LX and EX versions. This is the first turbo engine that Honda has ever offered on a Civic, and compared to last year’s model, the turbo engine accelerates the 2016 Civic nearly 2 seconds faster.

The Best 2016 Compact Sedan For Long Commutes

If the main duty for your 2016 Honda Civic is long commutes and you don’t want to spend most of your time (or money) at the gas station – you’re in luck. Thanks to the responsive CVT automatic transmission, the Civic gets an EPA rated 42 miles per gallon on the highway and 31 miles per gallon in the city**.

Combine that with the fact that the 2016 Honda Civic holds about 12.4 gallons of gas and you can travel up to 520 miles before needing to stop to refuel.

To give you a better idea on what this means for commuters and long distance driving, New York City is 515 miles away from Ann Arbor, MI. So technically, if you filled-up your Honda Civic and traveled in a straight line, you’d be able to get to New York City without stopping at a gas station.

“Congratulations to the team at Honda,” said AutoGuide Group Editorial Director Colum Wood. “The new Civic is easily the best all-around package I’ve driven, not just this year, but in a very long time. It’s premium, yet sporty, and I just love that new turbocharged engine. A car that’s this good, with Honda’s reputation for quality, reliability and durability, just doesn’t come along every day.
